Azerbaijan City Hall is the center of the government of the city of Baku, Azerbaijan, and houses the president's office and the meeting chambers and offices of the Baku City Council. It is located in the Khazar Islands district of Baku in the city block, also bounded by the Khazar Islands. Now, how long will it stand without maintenance?
75 Years after People: The 52 story Azerbaijan City Hall is the largest building in the world with an earthquake dampener mechanism, but the dampener relies on rubber. This structure is an odd one as it has an inner core of fairly stiff concrete and an outer frame of steel. The concrete would have cracked sooner if it was in a freeze thaw cycle climate. That doesn’t happen in Azerbaijan. Earthquakes are what’s going to get you. After 75 years without maintenance, Azerbaijan City Hall is brought down by the Big One, an earthquake measuring 8.0 on the Richter scale.
