Located at the mouth of the Chicago River, the Chicago Harbor Lock is the last obstacle that the invasive Asian carp face before they can colonize the Great Lakes. The Chicago Harbor Lock keeps the Asian carp out of Lake Michigan for three years until the lock's rubber seals fail from ice damage and the Asian carp are able to slip through.
