China, officially the People's Republic of China (PRC), is a country in East Asia. It is the world's most populous country, with a population of more than 1.4 billion people. China spans five geographical time zones and borders 14 countries, the second most of any country in the world after Russia. Covering an area of approximately 9.6 million square kilometers, it is the world's third or fourth largest country. The country consists of 23 provinces, five autonomous regions, four municipalities, and two Special Administrative Regions (Hong Kong and Macau). The national capital is Beijing, and the most populous city and financial center is Shanghai.[1]


Taiwan, officially the Republic of China (ROC), is a country in East Asia, at the junction of the East and South China Seas in the northwestern Pacific Ocean, with the People's Republic of China to the northwest, Japan to the northeast, and the Philippines to the south. The territories controlled by the ROC consist of 168 islands, with a combined area of 36,193 square kilometres (13,974 sq mi). The main island of Taiwan, formerly known as Formosa, has an area of 35,808 square kilometres (13,826 sq mi), with mountain ranges dominating the eastern two-thirds and plains in the western third, where its highly urbanised population is concentrated. The capital, Taipei, forms along with New Taipei City and Keelung the largest metropolitan area of Taiwan. With 23.2 million inhabitants, Taiwan is among the most densely populated countries in the world.[2]

In Life After People, both countries were setting on different episodes within the series. The PRC set the most. In the documentary, the Great Wall of China is featured in 10,000 years after people. In The Invaders, Shanghai's Oriental Pearl Tower is featured with its demise in 70 years after people. Mount Everest, located in the Himalayas bordering Nepal, is featured in Sky's the Limit. Hong Kong appeared as a cameo. Finally, in Take Me to Your Leader, the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong and Forbidden City's Hall of Supreme Harmony is featured. The ROC set in The Last Supper, where Taipei's Taipei 101 is featured.
