The tower still looms over the cathedral

200 years after people, The Tower of Pisa is the 186 ft tall bell tower of the Cathedral of Pisa. The tower is famous for its iconic lean that was caused by building the tower on soil that was too unstable. Throughout history people have tried to keep the tower from collapsing including a project that ran from 1990 to 2001 that removed 50 cubic yards of soil from under the raised end of the tower and lessening its lean. But now with no people to recalibrate the tower’s lean the lean finally becomes too great for the tower to bear and it collapses.
