The species were introduced in 6 weeks after people when the lions are hungry at the San Diego Wild Animal Park. Lions can go 2 weeks without eating but it's been over a month since their last feeding. Being ravenous, lions are willing to test the electrified fence that surrounds their enclosure and to their surprise, they don't get a shock since the power grid failed weeks ago. The only biggest obstacle for the lions is the moat and it is over 18 feet wide but lions have been known to leap more than 30 feet. It took just a single leap to be free from their enclosure. Trevor Valle stated that the first thing they'll do is to go for food whether it's in the zebra enclosure right next door or somewhere throughout the park. At first, the lions would be wary of open spaces, as they are used to the smaller space of their enclosures, but the drive to survive will encourage them to explore their surroundings. Soon, the lions will expand their range in search of food and become a new king of the urban jungle.

In 50 years after people, lions enjoys a spot in the sun with having escaped from the San Diego Wild Animal Park, the African lions have spread out and adapted to the new environment in Southern California. Trevor Valle stated that there are predatory cats that size from San Diego to Santa Barbara and would be real easy to get places on the freeways, get off it into the open savannas and would be a perfect environment because there's a lot of ranches in the areas and able to hunt and take down cows and horses. Lions can eat up to 75 pounds at one sitting and can eat an entire baby calf from hooves to head at a single meal. Trevor Valle stated that the lions would become an apex predator of Southern California and in time, might evolve into a new American lion, similar to those which once roamed the continent thousands of years ago.
