Rhyolite is a ghost town in Nevada near Death Valley. When gold was discovered in the area in 1904 the population of Rhyolite jumped from 2 people to 1200 in six months. In the town’s first three years the mines produced over $1 millions in gold. By 1908 the population of the town was 8000. When the gold dried up the town was abandoned. Now most of the buildings in the ghost town have been damaged by wind-blown sand. Rhyolite is featured in the episode Heavy Metal. Structures featured in this segment include the Rhyolite Train Depot, the Rhyolite Bank and the Bottle House, a house made out of 30,000 glass whiskey bottles.
